Home Burglary Arrest
An indigent man, with whom Township Police have become very familiar, has been charged in connection with a daytime residential burglary in the Country Crossings development. The early morning arrest followed a concerned citizen’s call to police of suspicious activity in the area.
At 6:59 AM on Thursday 2/7/13, officers were dispatched to a residence on Lakeside Drive for a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival, police discovered a rear door window had been broken and found the interior in a state of disarray. A subsequent search of the interior found the suspect, 25 y/o Steven A. Gilmartin, hiding in a second floor closet. In his possession, officers found an iPod which had been stolen from the residence as well as a 6“ switch blade knife.
Gilmartin was charged with 1 count each of, Burglary, Theft, Receiving Stolen Property and Criminal Mischief as well as weapon offenses. Municipal Court Judge William Golden set bail at $50,000 full cash.
Sgt. Vince Minniti, Ptlm. Bill Franklin, and Ptlm. Steve Carson investigated. They were assisted at the scene by officers from Woolwich Twp.
